This tour gives you time to explore a few areas of Iceland in depth, which makes if perfect for those who want ot hike, watch birds, or some other outdoor activity in several different parts of Iceland. You can travel at a rather leisurely pace, with 2 nights in the west, and north, and a day on either end at Reykjavik. There’s time to do some day tours along the way, particularly if you schedule them ahead of time. You’ll get to know a lot of the country - an ideal tour for vacation-starved Americans!

  • Waterfalls, volcanic craters
  • Glacier walks, look for Blue Whales
  • A time for some river rafting or a ride on Icelandic horses
  • Akureyri with its Sub-Arctic plant botanical garden and pleasant walking streets
  • Drive through Skagafjörður, the Valley of the Horses, broad and green with snow-topped mountains
  • Time for river rafting, horseback riding, hiking and walking
  • Visit a seal colony, a turf manor farm museum with a look into a very interesting past
  • The Golden Circle Thingvallavtn - history and geology, Geysir - geyser, Gullfoss - Iceland's mighty waterfall
  • A lush lake in a very diverse & geothermally active area (with a spa) and many birds
  • Hot springs and lava fields and unusual lava formations

You can travel at a rather leisurely pace, and if you schedule them, take in some day tours . You’ll get to know a lot of the country - an ideal tour for vacation-starved Americans!

Day 0:
Leave the US. We suggest heading right to sleep - as it’s a short night flight!
Day 1:
Welcome to Iceland! Explore the Reykjanes Peninsula and soak in the Blue Lagoon. Overnight in Reykjavík.
Day 2:
North along Hvalfjordur, explore saga lands with Langjokull glacier, waterfalls, historic sites. Two nights here.
Day 3:
Snæfellsnes Peninsula with it’s maritime villages, bird cliffs, glaciers on volcanos, whales and shark.
Day 4:
North to Skagafjörður - the Valley of Horses, with lots of history and hiking. Overnight in North West Iceland.
Day 5:
Sample Akureyri’s charms, with great hiking, botanical garden, cathedral, museum. Spend two nights here.
Day 6:
A day to explore the natural wonders of Lake Mývatn, the hot springs at Námaskarð, and the lava fields at Krafla.
Day 7:
Whale watch in Húsavík, perhaps, or just head east - past Egilsstadir through the East Fjords. Overnight near Hofn.
Day 8:
Dramatic fjord landscape, Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon, and Skaftafell National Park. Overnight near Skaftafell.
Day 9:
Many natural wonders -glacial outwash plains, black beaches, waterfalls, vivid lava fields. Sleep in South Iceland.
Day 10:
Golden Circle sights, then back to the capital - city center, museums, great restaurants. Overnight in Reykjavík.
Day 11:
Relax, do museums, shops, pools or the Blue Lagoon. Drop car at airport and hop on the plane for home!

    At Iceland Adventure and Horses North, we make our prices as complete and clear as possible. Our packages include flights with all fuel surcharges, and departure taxes, any necessary airport transfers or international flights for your tour, , a choice of car of a chosen size with unlimited miles, and VAT, hotels with private bath for all nights of your tour, breakfast every day, a good road map and detailed itinerary with lots of information on what to see and do, as well as the services of our local representative in Iceland, should any need arise.
    Not included are travel insurance, meals other than breakfast, gasoline, tolls, or any day tours or activities - although we’re happy to work with you to choose and book these - or we can make it easy for you to book them once you’re in Iceland. Also, not included is Collision Damage Waiver Insurance (CDW) - we urge you to check with your credit card company to see if they provide this for car rentals in Iceland. Otherwise, it can be purchased once in Iceland.

    Most of our driving tours can have days added and can be customized if you have particular interests - there may be an extra charge for this service.

    For 2010, our driving tours offer a broader array of options in accommodations. Now you can choose between accommodations in rooms categorized as Standard, Comfort or Superior. All rooms are clean and warm, have private baths, and most have TV and telephone. The rooms vary in things like size, ammenities, and view.

    Standard accommodations are in simple hotels, farm houses and guesthouses
    Comfort level rooms tend to be larger, more ammenities, in best Tourist class (3+stars) hotels
    Superior rooms are at the best available hotels or the best available rooms

    Prices here are per person/double occupancy - ask about other occupancy, cars and tour length. Car prices are w/manual transmission. Many models available in automatic for a bit more.
